Sunflowers in Forsyth County

UPDATE:  According to a Facebook Update – the last day for the Anderson Sunflower Farm 2014 Season is July 27, 2014. Sunflowers in Forsyth County It’s that time of year – the time when sunflowers start to bloom in Forsyth County!  I’ve been getting a familiar question recently – when are the sunflowers going to be out?  If you’re not familiar, they’re referring to The Anderson’s Sunflowers on Majors Road at Hwy 9.  It’s a beautiful field that blooms each year thanks to a tradition of a local family.  They’re also kind enough to open the field for photography and of course to sell the beautiful flowers too. It’s always a short season though (this year 4-6 weeks is expected pending weather) so you have to be ready & visit while they are in bloom!  I have friends that drive a good distance to make sure they get their photograph in the sunflower field each year! Just a few days ago, The Anderson’s Sunflowers Facebook page  announced the flowers were close to blooming and they expected to open the farm to the public on July 5th! A few things to note for the 2014 Season: $10 Entry Fee per Car Flowers will be sold $12 per dozen or $8 per half dozen Open 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week while in bloom A special note to photographers – a fee is charged for you to host a full or mini session.  Click here for information. It is our plan to plant twice as many strawberries next year so hopefully we will not be in this situation next year! Thanks so much!”...

Blueberry Picking in Forsyth County 2014

Blueberry Picking in Forsyth County Last year, a new Blueberry Garden opened up for blueberry picking in Forsyth County – Blueberry Garden’s U-Pick Blueberry Farm & Nursery. We shared it with our readers last year and while I, personally, was never able to check it out I did hear from several of you that made it & enjoyed it very much. One heads up – the garden is located at a residence. So it might feel like you’re going to a friend’s house (or a strangers) to pick. That was probably the most common “surprise” factor I heard back. If you went strawberry picking at Warbington Farms this season or in the past, then you may have seen it then – it’s right next door! The website also advertises the following: Open Friday & Saturday (7am to 6pm – or until berries are gone) Open by Appointment through the week Pre-Pick available w/ 2 hours notice for each gallon. No Pesticides or Herbicides used – using organic practices to grow the best blueberries possible. Cash or Personal Check only. No credit/ debit cards. Prices – $15 for U-Pick Gallon & $30 for Pre-Picked Galloon (Note: Bring your own container to carry berries home). The U-Pick Farm & Nursery is located at 5455 Crow Road (right next to Warbington Farms) in Cumming (30041). NOTE: As with any u-pick farm, be sure to call or check ahead to confirm fruit is available for picking!! And if you need some recipes after you have picked blueberries, we have some great ones on our “Berry Recipes” Pinterest board. Contact Information: 5445 Crow Road...
