Local Musician Mike McAllister Inducted into Louisiana Music Hall of Fame

Forsyth County, GA, February 4, 2014 – Mike McAllister, musician and drum instructor at Music Authority in Cumming, GA, was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame on January 25, 2014. Mike studied percussion at the acclaimed Berklee College of Music in Boston where, in 1980, he earned a degree in Music Performance. He had performed with various music groups before eventually answering a call to join a band in New Orleans, Louisiana where he remained for the next 20 years of his career. It was there where he joined the J. J. Muggler Band and continued to record and tour with the group for a 13 year stretch.

Forced out of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina where Mike lost all of his drums and musical equipment in the resulting flood, he made the decision to relocate to the Atlanta, Georgia area.  Currently he is residing and teaching in Forsyth County.  Mike performs with several bands throughout the region in addition to teaching drums at Music Authority where he has over 40 students each week. He is skilled in all styles of music and has been actively performing and teaching for over 30 years!

J. J. Muggler Band is Louisiana’s longest running southern rock and blues group, and have been based in the New Orleans area for 42 years. Members of the group inducted into the Hall of Fame, are Calvin Huber (posthumously), Jude Lirette, Ricky Windhorst, Jay B. Elston, Michael (Mike) McAllister, Jan Windhorst, Wayne “Jumpin Johnny” Trosclair, Wayne Lohr, Vic Larocca, Ronnie Dobbs, Glenn “Kul” Spears, Tommy Chadwick, Hokie Gjertsen and current bassist, Frank Girard.  The members of the J.J. Muggler Band joined a long and illustrious list of music greats who have been inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame over the past years; among them are Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard,  Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson, Buddy Guy, Ellis Marsalis, Percy Sledge, Tim McGraw, and the Neville Brothers.
